Merchant Maximov 's House
In the XIX century, local, and not only Don, architects were inspired by the classical style when building new buildings, so it is not surprising that many famous Rostov buildings were created in the classicism style. For example, one of the very first stone buildings of the city, owned by the merchant Peter Maximov, which was later called the Maximov House. Despite the turbulent history and numerous alterations, the building has survived to our time, although there is practically nothing left of the original plan in it. The location of the mansion was very successful – the city center, two steps away – the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Central Market. Literally a year after the construction was completed, the city Duma, merchant and petty-bourgeois administrations moved into a new spacious house. People's deputies sat here until 1899, until they received their building on Bolshaya Sadovaya Street. Also in Maximov's house there were numerous merchant shops, and also – for a short time
